01. It's Not The Fat (It's The Hat)
(Steinberg/Moore)

It's not the fat
It's the hat
It's not the twitch
It's the slap

It's not the bed
It's the morn
It's not the crow
It's the corn

(Doncha know that you have got decisions to make?
Can't you see you got a split decision?)
It's not the fake
It's the flack
It's not the kick
It's the klack
(Doncha know that you have big decisions?
Can't you make your own incision?)
It's not the leaf
It's the pile
It's not the road
It's the mile

It's not the feed
It's the fire
It's not the fence
It's the wire

It's not the pick
It's the puck
It's not the lick
It's the luck

It's not the feel
It's the fool
It's not the blood
It's the rules

It's not the fat
It's the hat
It's not the switch
It's the slack

02. See More Glass
(Steinberg/Moore)

If you want to shed despair
See more glass
Dreaming in your underwear
You're free to pass
To see more glass
A transitory island.

Hands of color, opaque wail
Master stroke
Filling up an endless pail
Broke and crass
See more glass
Once enlightened always.

Tension escalation rose
Half-turned fear
See more glass I now suppose
See-through tears
More closed eyes
Only when you're sleeping.

Take me to the suburban embassy
How the hell did I get in?
Modesty
Plays with me
9/11 Stockhausen.

Seniors acting younger now in record time
The perfect age undetermined
Children getting older now in record time
The perfect age
Undetermined age
Designer incubator.
The Jazz Scene at ABC Paramount
LP found on the TV
Charge account
Came in mouth
But she would not swallow.

Tension escalation rose
Half-turned fear
See more glass I now suppose
See-through tears
More closed eyes
Only when you're sleeping.

Hands of color, opaque wail
Master stroke
Filling up an endless pail
Broke and crass
See more glass
Once enlightened always.

The present-day composer
Has left the building.

03. My Other Voice
(Ron & Russell Mael / Giorgio Moroder)

You're so independent but
That's gonna change real soon
With my other voice
I can destroy this room
I'll wrap my voice around you
And I'll drag you everywhere
My other voice

You think you're romantic
Well, I'll whisper in your ear I'll be all you'll hear
For years and years and years
You may be deaf to everything
You won't be deaf to me
My other voice

04. He's A Devil in His Own Hometown
(Music: Irving Berlin / lyrics: Grant Clarke)

I've got an uncle by the name of Jerry
He's got a farm, a great big farm
2,000 acres of the very, very
Best land in the whole United States.

He's got a reputation in the village
Known as a dude, a gosh-darned dude
He would never do in New York City
But in his hometown

He's a devil, he's a devil
He's a devil in his own hometown
On the level, on the level
He's as funny as a clown
He spends a five-cent piece, thinks nothing of it
His pants all creased, red vest above it
And when it comes to women - oh, oh, oh. OH!

He's a devil, he's a devil
Telling stories in a grocery store
On the level, on the level
Has them rolling on the floor.
Down at the fair, with all the other heckers
He received first prize for playing checkers
And he cheated, can ya beat it?
He's a devil in his own hometown.

He's got an overcoat that's fine and furry
Gold-headed cane that came from Spain
They've even got him saying "I should worry!"
Just like all the sporty city folk.

You oughta see the way he spends his money
He bought a box of hole-proof socks
They would never do in New York City
But in his hometown

He's a devil, he's a devil
He's a devil in his own hometown
On the level, on the level
He's as funny as a clown
He spends a five-cent piece, thinks nothing of it
His pants all creased, red vest above it
And when it comes to women - oh, oh, oh. OH!

He's a devil, he's a devil
Telling stories at the grocery store
On the level, on the level
Has them rolling on the floor.
In Philadelphia he had a high old time
He stayed out one night til a quarter past nine
He's a devil, he's a devil
He's a devil in his own hometown.

05. She Loves Me Not
(Leonard Graves Phillips/Stan Lee)

She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not

She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not
She loves me she loves me not

Well I say that she
Loves me she loves me not

06. She Broke Both Our Hearts
(Michael Shelley/R. Stevie Moore)  MP3

Stevie, I was so sorry to hear
About your recent case of heartbreak
And I'm not one to kick a man when he's down
But I found out while she was
Writin' you a new prescription
She was handin' me back my key just 'cross town

Cause she broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
Love ain't pretty but she sure was and
She broke both our hearts

Michael, thanks for lettin' me know
I'm not surprised to hear that
You and me knew she was the queen of pain
I'll die if I don't get my medications properly filled
So who am I to sit here and complain?

Cause she broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
She played us like an old Stradivarius
She broke both our hearts

She broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
Love ain't pretty but she sure was and
She broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts

Michael, back when I met her (first! don't forget)
I knew her long 'fore you
She told every boy in school I was her man
Then you came struttin' in with all your
Indie rock cred label support
That girl forgot me quicker than England Dan
(and John Ford Coley)

Cause she broke both their hearts
She broke both their hearts
She played us like an old Stradivarius
She broke both their hearts

She broke both our hearts
She broke both our hearts
Love ain't pretty but she sure was and
She broke both our hearts (yours)
She broke both our hearts (mine)
She broke both our hearts (ours)
She broke both our hearts.
I'd venture a guess we broke hers too
Hopefully.

08. Ma Belle Amie
(Hans Van Eijck and Peter Tetteroo)

Ma Belle Amie
You were a child of the sun
And the sky and the deep blue sea
Ma Belle Amie
Apres' tous les beaux jours
Je te dis merci merci

You were the answer on all my questions
Before we're through
I want to tell you that I adore you
And always do
That you amaze me by leaving me now
And start anew
Ma Belle Amie
I'm in love with you

Let the bells ring
Let the birds sing
Let's all give my substitute a big cheer
Let the bells ring
Let the birds sing
For the man after him waits here
For the man after him waits here.

Ma Belle Amie
You were a child of the sun
And the sky and the deep blue sea
Ma Belle Amie
There was a time that you thought
That your only friend was me.

You were the answer on all my questions
Before we're through
I want to tell you that I adore you
And always do
That you amaze me by leaving me now
And start anew
Ma Belle Amie
I'm in love with you
Ma Belle Amie
I'm in love with you!

09. All Time Low
(Moore/Griffey/Congratulations Fruit)

Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay
To get out of going through
All these things twice

Hoping to get out surprise
You have to say
To purchase the item,
You must add to cart

You can always remove it later
There's a lotta good ways for a man to be wicked
You can always improve life later
There is not a good way left to die

Me and my baby, we can't make it
All time low, all time low
Our disagreements have
Become the rule

Well, you can always remove me later
There's a lotta good ways for a man to be wicked
You can always improve life later
There is not a good way left to die

All time low
All time low
All time low
All time low

I saw your mama on
Chris Matthews' Hardball
To tell you the truth
She did not have a clue
To tell you the truth
She didn't know what to do.

11. Amerikan Flag Pin

I think most things are too important
To take seriously
I want an Amerikan Flag Pin
Like all the politicians wear
A distinct advantage.

13. Gaptooth

Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Old Gaptooth
Forgot his dental health

Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Ole Gaptooth, he means well
Ole Gaptooth
Old Gaptooth
Forgot his mental health.

16. Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
(Bob Dylan)

With your mercury mouth in the missionary times
And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes
And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes
Who among them do they think could bury you?

With your pockets well protected at last
And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass
And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass
Who could they get to carry you?

Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I put them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace
And your deck of cards missing the Jack and the Ace
And your basement clothes and your hollow face
Who among them can think he could outguess you?

With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims
And your matchbook songs and your gypsy hymns
Who among them would try to impress you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I put them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
The Kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss
And you wouldn't know it would happen like this
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?

With your childhood flames on your midnight rug
And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs
Who among them do you think could resist you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
Oh the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide
To show you where the dead angels are that they used to hide
But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side?
Oh, how could they ever mistake you?

They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm
But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm
And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms
How could they ever have persuaded you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row
And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go
And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show
Who among them do you think would employ you?

Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole
With your holy medallion in your fingertips now that fold
And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul
Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I leave them by your gate?

Everyone's Gone To The Moon
(Kenneth "Jonathan" King)

Streets full of people, all alone
Roads full of houses never home
Church full of singing out of tune
Everyone's gone to the moon

Eyes full of sorrow, never wet
Hands full of money, all in debt
Sun coming out in the middle of June
Everyone's gone to the moon

Hearts full of motors painted green
Mouths full of chocolate-covered cream
Arms that can only lift a spoon
Everyone's gone to the moon
Everyone's gone to the moon
Everyone's gone to the moon.

20. Cause We've Ended As Lovers
(Stevie Wonder)

Sneaking kisses in the hall
Parting love notes are on the wall
Been each other's all and all each day

Lovers walking in the rain
So close we felt each other's pain
But now you say that love has died away

*'Cause we've ended now as lovers
Doesn't mean that we each other can't be friends
'Cause we've ended now as lovers
Does our love for one another have to end?

I remember teaching you
On piano 'Tea for Two'
And how playing it wrong I kissed your hand

But when our love has gone and passed
Why does the good exceed the bad?
Well that's one thing I'll never understand

'Cause I remember us at class
You were always the one to pass
And gave me answers right to see me through

But that was more than years ago
And who will love me, I don't know
It's sad for sure but true it won't be you.

Home Truths

From: Lane Steinberg
Date: Thu Oct 7 2004 10:58pm
To: Marston Moor
Subject: It's Not The Trix, It's The Mix

One quick listen. Great expanded chords underneath. Really love that fine. A little disappointed when I didn't hear your counter melody front and center banging up against mine. Seems that it needs some more peaks and valleys, things jutting in and out more obviously, more RSM singing, samples of things clanging, army sounds, roulette wheels, sirens, ghosts of long deceased wild-west outlaws cursing and engaging in gunfights, blenders crushing ice, the Hindenburg radio broadcast... I just hear it being more...I dunno, PSYCHEDELICLY EVIL.

Maybe I will add to this here...
